Evaluation

Continuity editing is a range of shots all edited together to make them flow in a logical order, it smooths over all the jumps and breaks in each shots so that it becomes more advanced. There are key rules for this type of editing and one is that you can't just put the camera any where and so you have to make sure the continuity is made sure it is done through out and editing takes place after.

I thought that we recorded in a order so that it would be easier to edit, the last shot we did of the canteen we could of made a lot longer and so when we see the canteen its only a glimpse whereas if we made the shot longer it could of been a more defined cut away.
Once we had all the shots we wanted to collect, we plugged the camera into the computer with a lead, we opened it up on a document 'Adobe OnLocation CS5' this is when we imported all the shots from the camera onto the computer.
Once we did this we then used 'Adobe Premier Pro CS5' to then edit the clips to make them all link together. Using this programme was quite difficult to start but once we got used to using different tools it became easier and quicker to use. We learnt how to cut shots by dragging the cursor towards a red line so that the shot can be cut into the only bit you want. A main tool we had to use which was quite important was when we had put the cut away shot into the middle of the clip, we then had to take the sound off the cutaway so that you could hear the main sound but still just shows us what Laura is talking about. We deleted the audio from the visual clip by unlinking the two and then removing it, then we dragged the visual clip of the cut away into the video section above the main one we had been using.

To upload the video I created my own you tube account and uploaded it onto you tube so that it could be transferred onto my blog, using the embed code I could edit HTML on here,
My blog has defiantly helped me organise my work more effectively because doing it in stages made you look and think of the whole task in a different prospective.

Post-Production

The editing process started off quite difficult, when we started to get it more, we found it easier and more reliable to use.
We cut out bits that we didn't need and made them all flow together so that when it is being watched it will seem more relaxed and easier by eye.

Production

The filming went quite well as we haven't done much of filming before.
We made sure we had about two seconds before and after each shot so when it came to editing it would be a lot easier, also moving the camera around we made sure that it was all done with care.

With all the shots we used the storyboard to help us know the camera angles and where to do each angle. We kept the shot reverse shot as close to the same as we could so that when it came to putting it all together it would match well.
We found it exciting to film our friends because we then had to do it for their task as well.

Pre-production task

Before we started filming for the task, we used a a storyboard to help us plan what we are doing and when the shots are used. This is so that we can make sure we have all the camera shots that are needed which are; establishing shot, match on action, using the 180degree rule, shot reversed shot, cut away and a cut in.

Continuity Editing - slides

Here we have got shots form a scene and matched them to what we thought was 'match on action, 180 degree rule and Eye-line match.'

The shot-reverse shot was portrayed as when the two characters are talking for a while and the shots are the same and so it seems to take a long time because there is a lot of the same shots.

Continuity Editing

The aim of continuity editing is to make the work for the editors seem invisible, that when an audience watch a television programme/film the editing is continuous and not noticeable. This helps get the viewer more involved within the TV programme.
180 degree rule has to be when to characters are facing each other and the camera angle can only move around the 180angle and not passed it. If it did break the rule then it would confuse the audience and it would have to explain it in another shot.

Preliminary Task video production

In this task we have to film and edit a character opening a door, close up of door handle, sitting down on a chair opposite another person, exchange a couple of lines of dialogue, Shot reverse shot with 180 degree rule.
Include; Cutaway, cut in.

Welcome

This is my Blog for AS Media studies, here i will post my work for my preliminary and main task.
